About Kryss
A good crossword makes a little room for curiosity.
Kryss is a home for crosswords, on the web at kryss.app and in the Kryss app for iOS and Android. We specialize in arrowwords, the Scandinavian-style crossword with the clues inside the grid. We believe they are a flexible, fun evolution of the classic crossword.
At kryss.app, you can solve our free daily crossword, or make your own crossword and share it, print it or embed it on your website. The Kryss app is for playing crosswords with friends and family, with a fresh puzzle in every game. We also make crosswords for newspapers, newsletters, publishers and brands, and we help teachers bring crosswords into the classroom.
We are a small team of crossword lovers based in Paphos, Cyprus. Since 2018, the Kryss app has been installed more than 10 million times, in 12 languages, and kryss.app is available in 14+ languages.
What is an arrowword?
An arrowword is a crossword without a separate list of clues. Each clue sits in a square inside the grid, and a small arrow points to where its answer goes. Some clues are words; some are pictures. It is also called a Scandinavian-style crossword.
That layout is what makes arrowwords so flexible. You can start anywhere, because every clue sits next to its answer. A grid can be small or large, a picture can stand in for a clue, and the same puzzle works on a phone, on a web page or on paper.
For the solver. For the creator.
Whether you play, make or publish crosswords, our focus is the same: thoughtful puzzles and practical tools that make crosswords easy to enjoy, create and share.

How Kryss began
Kryss started with a simple idea: what if two people took turns solving the same crossword? Who would outsmart whom? We built a small demo, started playing, and had a blast. The first version of Kryss launched in Denmark in 2018.
Then we added a chat, and it became a hit. Players tease each other, cheer each other on and send each other crosswords they made. Friendships have started there, and so have relationships; some players have even married. Because the game is turn-based, you play whenever you have a minute, which is why so many friends and families keep a game of Kryss going together.
The kryss.app website started with a simple question too: why is it so hard to find a delightful, high-quality crossword site where you can just play? On kryss.app, you can solve the daily crossword, or a crossword a friend sends you, with no sign-up and nothing to pay. Making your own is free to start.
We want the joy of crosswords, and of solving them together, to reach as many people as possible.
Crosswords used to be something you did alone with a pen. Kryss connects friends and family wherever they are in the world, so they can play together and solve together: two people, one grid.
